Dave,

great pictures. Are you still enjoying the good life on Hilton Head? Have you discovered any new insights as a resident instead of a visitor?

Cheers,
Will

We love living here, Will. Beautiful place, friendly people and nice weather (pouring rain today as part of tropical storm Andre)! We wanted a house in an area with lots of trees as opposed to being in the wide open. What I hadn't counted on was the amount of debris that comes from all those trees! Still beats shoveling snow.--Dave

Great pics Dave. We are coming down to the island again for a short trip in early October. Hopefully still good "summer" type weather. I would love to swim in the ocean just one more time this year...

I hear that september is supposed to be warmer than normal this year, I hope the weatherman is right, that would make for a good early October trip!

I never get tired of your pictures, keep 'em coming!

Dave,

I will be traveling to Hilton Head at the end of September for a week with my wife and 3 other couples(2 of us are from Iowa, 1 from Kansas and 1 from Texas. We are just looking for some entertainment ideas: restuarants, nightlife, golf. We have been to Hilton Head each of the last 5 years and were just looking for a locals prespective on what to do. As far as golf my friend and I have played most of the public courses on Hilton Head is there any way to get on any of the private clubs?

Thanks,

Dave in Iowa

Hi Dave, the private clubs are all pretty much members only as far as I know. There's a book called Club Key http://www.clubkey.com/searchresults.cfm?regions=Hilton%20Head%20SC,%20and%20The%20Surrounding%20Lowcountry
that has discounted golf rates for the public play courses and there's Last Minute Teetimes (where you call the night before for a time the next day (843) 689-2262. I bought the Club Key book a couple of years and it pretty much paid for itself in one week of discounted rates. Maybe Golfnow is cheaper, I don't know any more.
There's a cool little (and I do mean little) funky place with live entertainment and good food (that we just went to for the first time) called Ruby Lee's. It's on the north end. http://www.rubylees.com/ It's definitely off the beaten path but was fun and the food was great! It would probably be best to call for reservations.--Dave

Hi Will, weather here is great! Hot and muggy as would be expected. HUGE thunder and lightening this morning, then POURED rain, then cleared up to a beautiful day that included afternoon golf. There was a wonderful orange sunset this evening that lit the whole neighborhood up a beautiful pink/orange color. The cloud formations here are awesome! We have been here full time for one year now and it's a wonderful place to live.--Dave

Dave,

We've been considering the move for a few of years now. It's complicated with three young children who hate the thought of leaving their friends. Only ten more years before they are all in college! Maybe then...

Cheers,
Will

Dave,

I know what you mean about the clouds on Hilton Head. This is a picture I took of a big thunderstorm cloud just after sunrise. I'm afraid this photo doesn't do it justice.

Cheers,
Will

Hang in there boys! Your day will come! Once our kids were through with college, married off (that's like a whole year of college in one fell swoop) and our house in VA was paid off, we started looking for where we thought we would like to retire. Once HHI was decided upon, we began to look at property here, then finally purchased 10 years out from retirement. We then rented our HHI house out long term for that period (actually 8 years), using the rental income to offset the cash flow and making big principal payments whenever we had extra $ from tax returns or whatever. We got it paid down pretty well in that period and then used some of the money from the sale of our VA home to pay off what was left on the HHI house. It takes some planning and definitely some hard work...but I'm here to tell you it was worth it! Like I said, Hang in there!--Dave

Dave,

Thanks for detailing the path you took to relocate to Hilton Head full time. You're not the first person who has told me how much weddings cost. Luckily, we only have one daughter and she is only eight. We have a few years to prepare for that big day.

I'd like to do the move sooner, rather than later. I just need to convince everyone else. Luckily, I can work form anywhere as long as I have a laptop and a fast Internet connection.

Cheers,
Will

Dave-

The pic is awesome. I remember going to the Old Fort Pub with my parents when I was a kid (30+ years ago). My understanding is that it has recently re-opened several years ago as it was closed for some time. How's the food, etc?

Johnny, the meals are very good but rather pricey. We have been there the last several times with friends for happy hour and they have some very reasonably priced appetizers that are good.
Will, you have judged correctly! This is a great time of year weatherwise. The humidity is very low and temps in the 80's. It was 63 this AM...coldest I've seen in a while. Come on down, y'all!--Dave
